I will be taking a printer-USB cable with me, so should be able to hook the printer up with that - but a wireless connection would be much better. I'm visiting to have another go tomorrow, and any suggestions as to what may clear the issue would be much appreciated.

But the network key was rejected, even though it was the same one which had already been used to connect that very PC to the network. Click on Printer and right-click on the Printer icon, and then click on Properties to open up the Printer Properties. On one of the computers, click on the Start Menu and open up the Control Panel window. Once it has been connected, turn the printer on. When I went on the new PC to connect the printer it showed up on the network connections, requiring the network key. Connect the printer to the wireless network router via a USB cable. They were unusefull due to their expire date (over 10 years). But to startup this printer you need (once) the start-up cartridges (initializing inkt cartridges). It has been proposed as new and, indeed it was factory packed. If you no longer want to print using a USB cable connection, you can delete the HP printer icon without the Network label. The received item 'HP Photosmart 8250 printer' is UNUSABLE and it will remain like this.

The printer icon labeled Network is the printer driver installed for HP wireless direct or Wi-Fi Direct. That is running Windows Vista, 32-bit (see why she needed a new one!) Her Photosmart 5520 is connected wirelessly to her network, and prints with the vista printer. After setting up the connection, you will see two printer icons in the printer’s folder for the HP printer. Print a Network configuration page from the printer to get the IP address. It is now connected to her home wireless network, as is her old PC.
